This is essentially the follow-up to YoureNotADeveloper.

Once you’ve convinced a Linux zealot you actually are a developer, the first they reply with is:

“Well, if you’re a developer, why don’t you fix Linux bugs instead of whining about them?”

This is a classic Linux Youth assumption; because you write code you can somehow contribute to an unfamiliar code-base at the drop of a hat with no knowledge of the domain it applies to. This would be like asking a professional baseball player why he doesn’t play professional hockey, after all, they’re both sports!

Some still insist that I’ve wasted my time building the TM Repository when I could have been contributing to FOSS. The thing is, I like to develop applications people might actually use!

I sure have tons of time to fix everything wrong with Linux.

Now, as soon as I get that $20,000 check in the mail, I’ll get started!

http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/categories.html says:

“Please help spread the awareness that free commercial software is possible. You can do this by making an effort not to say “commercial” when you mean “proprietary.””

Oh boi, you should get started with your commercial free software contribution today!
Man, Linux must be totally awesome, as they can somehow turn something free in something that sells!
