Every now and again, you’ll come up with a simple solution to a problem that has evaded the finest minds of the ages. It has clarity. It is trivial to implement. It is universally applicable.
It is probably duct tape; otherwise somebody else would have got there first.
In the Land of Loon, you don’t bother posting the solution on (say) Ubuntu discussion boards. Good thinking! That way lies nothing but insults and abandonment issues.
In the Land of Loon, you don’t actually care that your solution is duct tape. Hell, the Land of Loon is built on duct tape. You will be feted for your mastery of duct tape.
Just one teeny, tiny little problem. When your duct tape solution springs a leak, you will need more duct tape. And when it springs a different leak, you will need yet more duct tape; which you’ll need to apply to the first duct-tape-on-duct-tape fix as well.
Don’t worry; this is not an infinite series. In six months’ time, even if your original piece of duct tape worked flawlessly, you’ll need to buy a whole new roll of duct tape.
Did I hear the word “testing?” Yes, it is. For the putative users.

Damn those Loonz … after giving penguins a bad name, their practices also cast a very bad light on my beloved duct tape :(
