It’s a sort of logical corollary to WorksForMe™.

Software licenses are evil and onerous; except when we do it. (Is the Microsoft EULA up to version 3 yet, btw?)

And we’d never sue an innocent party under the GPL, unlike Microsoft under their license (et Apple et al). Oh, we did? But it’s OK when we do it!

And proprietary code is evil, except when it’s ours (Red Hat support code; in fact anything that can actually be used to make money out of what I am oh so reluctantly forced to call “Gnu/Linux”). When it’s our’s, it Just Works.

And companies that don’t believe in giving their software away for free are evil. Except when they’re IBM or Oracle or, particularly, Google. It’s OK when “we” do it!

And patents are a mortal stain upon humanity! Lawrence Lessig says so! Except when the Open Source Community uses them or hoards them. Or when Google buys MMI just to acquire 17,500 of them (the earlier mention on TMR of Florian Mueller on fosspatents.blogspot.com is highly relevant here), that’s a Win. Because it’s OKWhenWeDoIt™!

Everything, no matter how inconsequential, is evil in the eyes of the Loons unless it is done by some temporary schoolgirl crush they have, like Google. (Used to be Sun, was even Oracle at one stage, was presumably Nokia when Nokia sponsored Qt but I’d assume they are on the Naughty Step now,)

Trouble is, Google didn’t buy MMI for the patents (see Florian, above. Reeally. An excellent read). They bought MMI to screw with court deadlines against Microsoft which would affect Android … and then, freetards, they are going to own a major manufacturer of “Free Open Source” phones.

Not that they’d actually want to take advantage of this by making a profit out of the $12.5 billion investment, of course.

Profit? It’s OKWhenWeDoIt™!

Funny how, to the rest of the world, the Desktop is BrokenWhenTheyDoIt™.

I’d have put it as “ItsOKWhenWeDoIt”, “BlatantHypocrisyIsOKWhenItsUsDoingIt” or even (and I can’t believe it’s not a TM yet) “DoubleStandards”

But that’s just me.

What Ted said.

Fair 'nough. I was working on a particularly flaky WiFi connection and didn’t put enough thought into it the first time. Better now?

(For anyone new to it, this used to be WorksWhenWeDoIt™.)

The GPL is a free software license, Microsoft uses evil proprietary licenses. It’s quite different.

IBM/Oracle/Google have contributed substantially to the advancement of FOSS, while Mafia$oft spreads FUD about it.

Open source community uses patents defensively only. Unlike Mafia$oft the patent troll scum.
