Nobody ever built the Hurd.
If anyone has successfully used autoconfig and the rest of the Gnu “tool chain” to build anything in the last fifteen years, I would be very surprised.
Nobody has yet built a usable stack for audio or display over the Linux kernel. I mean, it’s only been eighteen years with more or less the same hardware.
It shouldn’t be that difficult.
And we’re now on the cusp of Linux, the “if you build it, somebody will rip it off,” going away. Tiny shards will be left behind in Android. Even smaller shards will be left behind on supercomputers.
But for everything else? Pah. It’s dead on the desktop, and in FiveYears™ it will be a dried-out twig even in the LAMP market.
They really won’t come, you know.
