Linux is free. It doesn’t cost a penny. You can download and install it, configure it, and use it, all without every having to pull your credit card out (Assuming you’re even old enough to own a credit card).

That is until you want to do something productive. Suddenly installing things starts breaking other things, updates start taking out your video drivers and wifi, and your laptop won’t sleep when you close the lid. You’re not left babysitting your operating system, trying to stay on top of all the bug reports and dependency hell.

Things quickly go from trying to be productive, to trying to keep your head above water. Linux is free, but only if your time is worthless.

See FreeAsInSpeechâ„¢.

Linux zealots tend to trip over themselves when distinguishing between the two.

If only the same thing happened every time a Jehovah’s Witness rang my doorbell.
