The X server crashes randomly ?
Gnome seems to get unresponsive quite often ?
Don’t hesitate more, it’s probably only your RAM at fault. You should definitely do a RAM test. It’s probably corrupting your bytes.
(Even though faulty RAM is 0.01% of the time the real cause of the crashes.)

Broken dependencies due to a sheisty package manager? Obviously, that's a bad DVD burn's fault.
Did you accidentally run over your hard drive with a tank? That's the FS's falt.
MD5 checksum that!
RAMTest... sounds like some obscure dance.
You should link that to LinuxIsPerfectâ„¢
So perfect that if something doesn't work, it MUST be hardware at fault.
