Commonly asserted by Freetards using Gentoo (and, on occasion, inexperienced FreeBSD sysadmins). These special sorts of idiots claim that taking six hours to compile a program from source yields speed benefits orders of magnitude faster than just using a generic binary.

They fail to account for the fact that most binaries end up getting compiler flags optimized anyways for the most common architectures, that updates are nearly impossible, and for the fact that the six hour compiles usually yield binaries that save only a few seconds total on execution.

Source-based advocates may also commonly be heard to claim that seeing GCC dump garbage on the screen helps you better understand how your PC works, relating them to Linuxteachesyoucomputerscienceâ„¢
