With all due credit to DigitalAtheist. I think it’s a wonderful summary.

Old ground, of course, but here we go.

Around about 2000, Loons were all over AMD. AMD was not Intel, and therefore was not Wintel. AMD was Ripe!

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

A couple of years later (or was it earlier?), Ellison was plugging the “thin client” netbook. Naturally, a bloated Windows would not work on this.

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

Larry persisted with his “Java Everywhere! As long as it’s Oracle Java!” schtick (remember Oracle 8i?). Java at the time was practically FOSS, or at least it wasn’t Microsoft.

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

Jonathan Schwartz fulfilled all of Larry’s wet dreams. At last, Java was Free! Coincidentally, also cheaper for Oracle to license.

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

And here come IBM! Wear a blue suit and a white shirt and a tie, and sing the company song! At least IBM is a significant investor in the Linux kernel. And it’s free!

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

After that, there’s Hewlett-Packard — a proper engineers’ firm, the engineers’ firm that engineers (including The Woz, for goodness’ sake!) dream of joining. Off and on, HP have embraced FOSS ... and then, not. They also took a punt at WebOS, the magnificent new world-capturing OS that, er, couldn’t.

Well, that didn’t work. Oh well.

And then there’s Google. The last great white hope! Google! Android! Motorola!

Well …

Except that it did work. Linux is the dominant OS in basically every market OTHER than the desktop. IBM/Oracle/etc. were all about Linux on the server and supercomputer. And guess what, they won.

#2 Posted by Adam_King on Aug 21, 2011 1:31 PM

And to you show how important the desktop market is apparently, one of the largest desktop PC OEMs (HP) decided it’s no longer worth being in that market.

So you can celebrate with your declining relevance. GNU/Linux will be running on everything that matters.

Twitchy nerves, or what?

When was the last time you used a supercomputer, Adam?

#4 Posted by Adam_King on Aug 21, 2011 1:50 PM

Does it matter? I see you are back to the nonsense and insult. Feel free to continue without me.

#5 Posted by DrLoser on Aug 21, 2011 1:52 PM

Free! Free! Free at last!

#6 Posted by ReverseControllerSE on Aug 21, 2011 3:27 PM

DurdenOS on servers? Perhaps, but only if it’s behind a decent firewall (block everything type), or not touching the net at all (see previous).

I wonder how vulnerable those Scientific Linux users are, I wonder if their test results can be manipulated.

Actually, I wonder for how long they have been manipulated and by how many parties…

#7 Posted by DrLoser on Aug 21, 2011 4:11 PM

Just out of interest, Adam, where is the nonsense and where is the insult?

You’re an obnoxious little twerp with a frankly disgusting attitude to the physically or mentally handicapped, by the way.

Not an insult, just an observation. And not nonsense, just a reference to your self-proclaimed attitude to Downs Syndrome kids.

#8 Posted by DrLoser on Aug 21, 2011 4:15 PM

Which offense I note you have yet to apologise for, in any form.

You are a miserable piece of futile miscegenated excrescence, and you just don;t care about anybody else, do you?

Do You?

Prove me wrong.

#9 Posted by DrLoser on Aug 21, 2011 4:24 PM

Actually, “proof” is too strong a measure.

Have you helped an old lady across the road?

Have you served tea and donuts to the local community centre?

Have you helped a little kid with only a claw and a half to complete a five-piece jigsaw?

I have done all of those things, Adam, and I feel dirty and disgraced that I am not still doing them. The hospital up the road, three miles away, is the hospital that deals with multiple amputees who have been on the front line in Afghanistan, and you know what? I’ve never even set foot inside the doors. I haven’t even given as much to “Help for Heroes,” which is a dignified operation, as I should.

We’re all agog for your tales of astonishing self-abnegation.

Dickhead.

#11 Posted by ReverseControllerSE on Aug 21, 2011 4:32 PM

Aah, I see.

—————————

He has no tales to tell, methinks.

Given he has to resort to Linux $hilling for a cause, I doubt he has anything at all (of any worth) in his life to speak of (not even bad things, let alone good ones).

First off Dr. L. thanks. I never thought to inspire a TM, but what the heck I’ll take one.

Okay, lets get in to this nonsnse that was spouted about (ahem) “super computers”. First off, and most importantly, your average, everday user of computers does not look at, hear about, or even give a good everlovin’ damn about a super computer, nor what OS it is using. He or she goes to work, uses their computer at work, goes home and uses their computer at home, or maybe uses one at a friends house, the library, or maybe an internet cafe if traveling. They just don’t encounter super computers in their everyday life.

As for the server, I will try to go through this again: a server is nothing but a slave OS. All a server does is take and fetch orders. The average users doesn’t care what is doing the carrying and fetching, all they know is that those pesky errors they get from time to time are a pain in the ass. They don’t know if the server is Apache, Gnu(t)/Linux, IIS, Judy, Karen, or Steve.

And don’t bother bringing Android into the mix for phones. Freetardia is too flaky about Android. It is Linux when the news is good, but not Linux when the news is bad.

Wow, that was interesting, but not what I meant.

Because you are worth it:

And, because I can finally quote it as is, this: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.457141199600.240632.361537399600&type=1

Damn, but that kid had more fun over a hundred metres than I have yet had in my entire life.

DRLoser probably has sex with downs kids. Do they like it up the butt, nice and hard? Or maybe they don’t even have a clue what’s going on as DRLoser drags them to some out-of-the-way place and proceeds to buttrape them. So tell us, you winbred M$ gay nazi, why you get off on raping retarded downs kids.

#17 Posted by ReverseControllerSE on Aug 21, 2011 6:32 PM

Say PeeOutOfMyAss, you wouldn’t be a very well known troll from LHB, would you?

And uhh, have you solved your urinary tract issues, yet?

#18 Posted by need2bfree on Aug 21, 2011 6:36 PM

What are you talking about you DRLoser sockpuppet? I have never trolled LHB. That place is falling apart well enough without me. I’m simply pointing out that you’re a gay pedo with a fetish for downs kids.

This entry is not even a ™ and is nearly incomprehensible.

#20 Posted by _sw on Aug 21, 2011 8:38 PM

Just sayin’.

#21 Posted by Adam_King on Aug 21, 2011 9:05 PM

I must admit Need2BFree does have a point.

“This entry is not even a ™ and is nearly incomprehensible.”

Dr Loser is a little too… eloquent for his own good. But it’s actually a good TM. Freetards do like latching on to corporations that “embrace” open source.

#23 Posted by JoeMonco on Aug 21, 2011 9:58 PM

“This entry is not even a ™ and is nearly incomprehensible.”

I think our little one is having doubts about what this site is all about. After all, the way Andrew Wyatt at OMGCC valiantly defending the (misguided) view that Linus Torvalds cares any more than what tickles his fancy does leave a good impression to the… Well, impressionable (or those illiterate enough to depend on pictures of fluffy creatures to express ideas). Never mind the fact that having a key developer openly saying stuff like “this feature bores me” is not going to inspire confidence to anyone needing it.

So what does Bastion of Freetardia™ mean? Well, that really depends on which part of the industry history you are looking at. In the 90s, I would probably say Netscape. In the 00s, that would almost undoubtedly be Novell, Sun or Google. Never mind the fact that most of these entities had almost no directions, no genuine interest in the open-source “way” and most definitely no strategies. They were the Bastion of Freetardia, and the bogeymen (Intel, Microsoft, etc.) would never stand a chance against the might of the little guys/alternatives/grass-roots™.

And one by one, they fell. One by one, they fell…

Need2BeF*cked surely is obsessed with gay sex… Come man, come out the closet, you’ll be happier.

“Linux is the dominant OS in basically every market OTHER than the desktop.”

Apple and Blackberry each beat Linux on phones, and Apple owns about 70% of the tablet market.

The rest? Linux has huge slices. Of very tiny pies.

#26 Posted by Adam_King on Aug 22, 2011 4:55 PM

How many times do I have to link this? Android is the #1 smartphone OS in the world by marketshare, and has been for some time. Apple is way behind, and RIM and Mafia$oft are slipping into statistical insignificance.

http://www.dailytech.com/Android+Apple+Own+NearDuopoly+in+US+With+Impending+Demise+of+RIM/article22511.htm

Eat it you FUDing Winbred scum. Linux is murdering your collective assess in the fastest and more profitable consumer market.

No matter how many evil plots you concoct, you will never stop the divine Linux operating system from taking it’s rightful place as foundation of all software systems. LONG LIVE LINUX!!
