The belief or assertion that ARM processors will one day overthrow x86 processors. Due to the great deal of open source code that runs on ARM architecture, freetards believe this will usher in a golden age of Linux on a mainstream platform and marginalize Windows, which is x86 exclusive.
To the average consumer, software vendor, coder, or anyone who is in any way financially dependent upon computers, this will usher in a living hell. Unmaintained legacy applications will break and have to be cast aside. Vendors will go bankrupt as more effort is spent on ARM compatibility and less on actually getting products out the door. Coders will be forced to begin the tedious process of porting applications. All for likely a 5% increase in battery lifetimes. Yay.
Of course, hilarity will eventually ensue as history repeats itself as a closed-source developer builds a fully-functional(read: not Linux) OS for the new platform.

Special thanks to the commenter on Linux Hater who invented ARMageddon for this ™.
Again, Microsoft has a version of Windows that runs on ARM. I totally agree with them on why they aren’t just tossing it on there now; there would be hell to pay.
Remember when netbooks were going to usher in a new era for Linux? Remember how it was supposed to be the perfect match and the first generation of netbooks all ran Linux? And then 4 out of ever 5 were returned to have 7 year old Windows XP installed on them.
I remember that. When Microsoft announced they were going to drop the price of XP down next to nothing, the OEM’s said “screw this” and put XP on instead. A lot of them still have a Linux option, but nobody chooses it.
What do you think will happen when OEM’s start threatening to use ARM processors? Intel will magically pull a rabbit out of their hat and supply a cheaper chip.
So much for getting everyone to use Linux. All its done is drive down costs for consumers, making them even more firmly entrenched with their familiar platforms.
If OEM start to really use ARM CPU, MS will release a ARM edition of Windows 7. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Microsoft already has an ARM build of Windows 7 running somewhere, just in case, a la Apple with Mac OS X. After all, Both the NT kernel and NextStep ran on many architectures 15 years ago, and Unlike the Freetards, both Microsoft and Apple know that an Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) is best located in kernel space.
shouldn’t this be tagged: JustAroundTheCorner™ ,as the ARMageddon™ is yet to arrive.
That’s absurd, Fustigator. “Unlike the Freetards, both Microsoft and Apple know that an Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) is best located in kernel space?”
Unless you MoveTheGoalposts™, the HAL can only be in kernel space.
Otherwise, it’s a GZK. (Small Kubrick pun, there.)
Thanks for another TM Dr Loser! What do you think of “MoveItIntoUserSpace™”?

ARMageddon is coming, but it’s not how the Linux prophets have foreseen…
