Linux users are sometimes so desperate to spread their OS like the plague that they’re even willing to compromise their principles (and common sense) to do it.
Contradict yourself by ditching the whole FOSS ideology and include proprietary codecs and drivers in a distro? Well, as long as it spreads Linux, great! Lie to customers about how Linux can do everything they need? Well, as long as it spreads Linux, great! Resort to vandalizing computers in PC shops? Well, as long as it spreads Linux, great!

This one was inspired by reading this guy’s post on the Ubuntu forums (topic was what new features should appear in Lucid): http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8672484&postcount=141
It has the usual qualities of a zealot’s posting. References to slavery (in a game, no less!) and prioritizing the “need” for everyone to use Linux.
One or two of these TMs need to be seen out in the wild. Otherwise, they’re about as useful as the Linux Desktop.
I’m being unfair. They can’t possibly be that awful. Put it another way: think how many distros are out there, all doing more or less the same thing, even though nobody much even notices them.
The thing is, much like Linux distros themselves, this is essentially a variation of a theme! Anything’sBetterThanMicrosoft, AnythingButMicrosoft, TheWholeWorldNeedsToHaveLinux, EveryoneUsesLinux, etc…
I recall MS telling employees of their OEMs to say that Windows is the best operating system. MS is clearly desperate then, too.
@ThomasB
There is a very distinct difference between vandalizing PCs to spite software companies and running an ad campaign. Yes, Microsoft has lied (the whole Get the Facts fiasco being a prime example), but the Linux community are being hypocrites when they slander MS for their practices and then turn around and do exactly the same thing.
@ThomasB
I know this is boring. I know this is tedious.
However, some of us want to know. Where is this parallel universe whereof you speak? “I recall MS telling employees of their OEMs to say that Windows is the best operating system.”
Recall not — link you should.
The Tard is strong in this one.
