At least, that’s what the translation module in my brain made out of the actual headline Microsoft Gives up on More Versions of Windows. Apparently, Microsoft doesn’t support Windows properly and they can’t be relied on.

Except for the fact that if you actually read the linked article you’ll see that they are only dropping support for XP SP 2 and Vista (original release). Vista was released 3 years ago and XP “2” was released at least 3 years before that. The key fact is that their successor versions have been released now for multiple years. Oh well. I guess in the Linux world distros are supported for decades. Oh wait…

I’m not sure whether Roy is aware that upgrading to SP3 is pretty much pulling the patches in WSUS. After 2 years, everyone can be expected to have that done. But of course Linux can do better. I’m sure pulling over the 4 Ubuntu releases that passed by in meanwhile are much easier to enroll than a service pack for Windows is.

Voted up; but can we have the next Lunixtic, please? I don’t want to have to google for them. The Italian courts will get medieval on my ass. (They’re not much good on nailing Berlusconi, but they’re pretty darned good at restricting “software freedom…”)

The irony is, they’re the first ones to bleat about how Microsoft support supposedly sucks and/or how it costs a fortune. Clearly, no matter what MS does, they do it wrong.
