This is old – circa 2008 – but still a classic piece of FUD. It has all the qualities of Linux zealotry AND it serves as a sequel to the Munich LiMux debacle.

It starts off fair enough. The author details why migration is costly, both in terms of time and money, and how it was daft for them to roll out their own distro (y’know, for the life of me, I can’t understand why we constantly need new distros for our needs when Linux is supposedly so bloody perfect).

But then he slips into a typical cultist frenzy, accusing Microsoft of sabotage with nary a shred of proof (a fact he reluctantly admits). Case in point:

The second the City of Vienna announced their migration to free software, Microsoft’s “damage control” machine started; we will never, ever know what they did; words like “bribes”, “absurd discounts”, “personal pressures” come to mind, but they are just (frankly unfair) speculation.

Or maybe, just maybe… gee… I dunno… Linux isn’t ready for mass-adoption? Nah. Bogeymen make life more interesting.

“Also, surprise surprise, Wine would crash repeatedly while running Schlaumäuse.”

Why, Microsoft obviously did that on purpose! Put on your tin-foil hats before Bill Gates kills us all!

Funny, innit? An application runs fine in Windows but is broken in Wine, and naturally, they blame Microsoft, not Wine’s developers. A disturbing example of the mindset of Linux fans, who deem it literally unthinkable that their software could somehow be inferior.

Hell and Tarnation, I feel a song coming on: http://www.asklyrics.com/display/ultravox/vienna-lyrics.htm

Well, I don’t really, but bits of the lyrics are eerily appropriate.

There’s a sort of Napoleonic feel to this, isn’t there? First, Munich. Next, Vienna. Oh, and we’ll pick up a bunch of Italian freetards along the way.

Next: Russia! I look forward to the worst winter of the century, followed by Stallman eating his own feet … hmmm. Forward?

So wait, Microsoft being shrewd business people offered a discount and this is considered a “bribe”?

I guess that restaurant I always go to is bribing me when they give me some fries on the house.

Just read the link. Good lord, that’s a story of everyday brain-damaged folk.

“Wienux?”
