In which Ed Bott rips the FSF a new one for, basically, lying through their teeth. (Recommended by Anonymous at May 4, 2010 2:46 AM on LHB.)
The article speaks for itself; including the title, it has 27 uses of the word “FUD.” Surely some sort of FSF record?
It looks like some unpaid junior idiot at the FSF has googled for “Microsoft Patent Infringements” and, as per normal in the Freecosphere, has failed to follow up the links and check the actual facts.
Kudos to Mr Bott for doing the leg-work to prove these idiots wrong. I’m sure some nitwit is going to call him a MicrosoftShill™, so here’s a link to his Disclosure.
And here’s a link to Bott’s response to the FSF response.

I love it. It’s reassuring to know that the entire IT world isn’t falling for Freedomite propaganda.
Question is, how long before Roy puts Mr. Bott on his hitlist?
Oh, and you might wanna add “UseOgg™” to this!
Didn’t even know that UseOgg™ existed … one more for the reading list!
As usual, comments are required reading and contain more trademarks that you can shake a clue stick at.
“I’ll take the word of FSF any time
over the word of M$ or other evil corporation.
The militants for free software are the new apostoles bringing in a new era of freedom and innovation.”
Religious analogies, zealotry, and a couple of trademarks (MSIsEvil, FreeSoftware, JustAroundTheCorner) all in just two senteces! That’s a record!
“Nobody is claiming Theora to be patent free, in fact they only claim it to be royalty free and licensed for used by On2, as they donated it.”
Actually, that’s exactly what the PlayOgg campaign claimed: “Best of all, [Ogg Vorbis] is designed to be completely free of patents and does not require the use of proprietary software.”
NobodySaysThat™. Nice try at cop-out, though.
@Delano: Just checked http://techrights.org/credibility-index/, and Ed Bott rates a zero. Quelle surprise. Well, at least Roy’s consistent.
Here’s a link to his latest anti-Bott rant:
