Another fantastic article about how the only thing hold small businesses back from adopting Linux is the pesky fact that Linux runs none of the applications use. Is that all?
We have all heard the GNU/Linux naysayers posit that, “No one will use Linux until (insert application name here) runs natively on Linux.” Other than the fact that this is almost pure hyperbole there is some kernel of truth there.
“almost pure hyperbole”? Are you kidding? This is the exact reason most businesses, and even individual users, give. Hell, its the reason many of them can’t switch to OSX either!
Many small business owners may want to move to Linux for any number of reasons.
Such as? You can’t just make broad statements like that and not back them up with some kind of fact or statistic. How exactly are bakery and flower shop owners going to benefit from switching to Linux? How is an office of 10 employees going to benefit? What exactly are these reasons you speak of?
Adding to this problem is many small businesses are very small businesses and may only need one computer for the entire business. This one computer must be used for web browsing and e-mail reading.
The author is not a small business owner. If he was, he’d know that even a small business needs to do more than just browser the web or write emails.
The article goes on to say that Windows is “inherently insecure” when it comes to email and web browsing. It continues by recommending everyone install Linux, because its “inherently secure” and virtualize QuickBooks on top of it.
However, we all know the real security feature of Linux is breaking your wifi so that you can’t get on the internet in the first place. Security through inoperability.

Wow, that one was stupid.
What sort of idiot would hire this man as a “consultant”? And, after the VMWare solution broke, what sort of idiot would hire him back, rather than just reinstalling Windows?
Just how much of the global economy is being eaten up by these cretins’ “advice”?
I’d be willing to guess it’s more than the cost of a Windows license.
Linux evangelism rule #1: when your OS lacks a virtue, slander other OSes.

I wish there were some kind of TM for that. I’ve been trying to figure out how to squish these cockroaches, and I suspect that devastating & vicious sarcasm is the only weapon they understand.
Hyperbole + Kernel == Pure Truth.
“What is the FOSS loving small business owner to do?”
The…“FOSS loving small business owner”... SURE!
