This article may be the first signs of climate change in hell as the temperature fell by a few degrees when this article was published.

The rose coloured glasses appear to have been downsized to rose coloured contact lenses now. Linux sites like OMGUbuntu are starting to post articles that dare to complain about issues with their beloved OS.

Could it be that for the first time in over 15 years, the zealots have finally lost their voice? Well, almost. The article still takes a dig at Microsoft, calling it a monopoly and referring to it as “bug number one”. But at least they’re accepting the fact that their current approach need some major improvement to even attempt to compete with the likes of Windows and OSX.

The most shocking thing about that post is the comments. There’s, of course, the usual Ubuntu defenders, “works-for-me“s and “you’ll-get-used-to-it“s, but also a surprisingly number of “me-too“s.

Have the Freedomites seen the light? Nah. Bashing Ubuntu has been trendy in the Linux world for a while now. Because of this, their own ranks are more willing to see its faults.

I predict the majority of the folks from there will either use another distro or (more likely) switch to Windows or Mac.

Note that it’s the first of a series. I can confidently predict that the lads from slashdot will be over en masse for the follow-ups.

I’d really have to applaud the commenters on that thread (apart from the usual nutters): it doesn’t actually read like it’s about Ubuntu at all — way too much sanity and courtesy. If this goes on, you’re gonna have to add OMGUbuntu to the Community tab.

Not a bad idea, actually. Community Guest of the Month?

(The one supreme nutter, btw, is the guy who sabotages every single Mac he can get his hands on — whether or not he owns them — by erasing OSX and putting Ubuntu on them, and then has the effrontery to complain that Macs only work so well because Apple controls the hardware…)

@DrLoser

Oh, God. There’s a Mac version of this guy?! – http://www.manucornet.net/pcjacking/

Nope, he’s worse. All Manu Cornet does is to irritate retailers by chucking a LiveCD version of Knoppix at random machines. Daft, but forgiveable.

Felixalberto26, on the other hand, well…

“Yes Ubuntu needs work it needs bug squishing it needs more yes, but when you think about it the work everybody does working on linux to get everything to work almost perfectly on every hardware piece out there, is amazing, I have installed Ubuntu in around 6 computers all different types, the only two which are alike is my macbook and my family’s Imac, they have all worked perfectly out of the box except installing the isight driver and the microphone driver in the imac.”

Oh, you thought I meant he donned a cape and flitted around the neighbourhood actively sabotaging any Mac he can find? Well, I exaggerated. But it’s only a matter of time with these people.

I think what annoys me more than anything is the misquoting of John Heywood’s (1497-1580) “Many hands make light work.”, from The proverbs and epigrams of John Heywood (A. D. 1562). Right. There. In. The. Title.
