Mafia$oft has shown once and for all that it is into strongarming others to pay it protection money. Like the mafia of old it threatens victims with supposed harm until they pay up. If they don’t pay up they die. That is the way of M$.

I guess Casio shouldn’t be using patented technology owned my the “evil” Microsoft, now, should they?

#2 Posted by Ian on Sep 20, 2011 4:52 PM

Love this FUD, its my favorite kind… If Casio, among many other companies like Amazon, thought their claims were bogus, they would have gone to court and invalidated these patents, wouldn’t they?

#3 Posted by kurkosdr on Sep 20, 2011 5:29 PM

@IAN

They tought their claims were bogus, but they figured out that the cost of defending themselves in the courts was higher. Look how much time and money IBM spent to fend of the mostly ridiculous claims of SCO. Of course, SCO was dumb enough to ask for very high royalties and thus made the effort worthwhile, Microsoft is clever (slimy) enough to ask for royalties low enough to make the effort non worthwhile. Yes, we live in an age that people admit guilt for things they havent done to avoid the court process.

What‘s got me wondered is why the DOJ hasn‘t taken notice of this tet. It‘s not a competitive practice to accuse someone of patent infringement and not reveal what patents were alledgedly violated. But, you see, they forced Microsoft to make a browser ballot screen a couplevof years ago, so the whole “microsoft acts anticompetitively“ issue has apparently been settled.

PS: Microsoft jumped the shark of the junk patent wars when the sued LG and Samsung, that are Microsoft‘s customers in the notebook market. If smartbooks like the EeePad Transformer prove to be a competitor to windows netbooks, guess which way said companies will choose.

PS: Voted up. I hate people and companies who tout fair play when they are winning, but dont play fairly when they start to lose. Not even DrLoser could justify patent trolling against a router manufactuter.

@Kurkos:

Who says I need to justify any such thing?

I’m just calling you, personally, out as a thief, pure and simple.

Large corporations (or even Mom’n'Pop stores) in patent litigation have nothing whatsoever to do with your regrettable tendency to take what you want and refuse to pay for it.

Or is there some subtlety in your argument that I’m missing?

#5 Posted by DrLoser on Sep 20, 2011 5:45 PM

Interestingly, however, Adam steps on his own dick with this one.

The deal purportedly involves “an undisclosed payment” (needless to say, for undisclosed reasons, which may be good or they may be bad). It involves a cross-licensing agreement which presumably benefits both parties.

You might not like patents, but they exist, and this is the sort of horse-trading that goes on.

In other “news” from the same article, Microsoft has agreed to pay Novell (boo, hiss!) $440 million to buy and resell SuSE licences.

Protection money my aunt fanny.

(I’m still looking for a mention of routers, incidentally.)

Mafia$oft needs to burn in hell.

@drloser at least I have a dick long enough to step on. Yours was probably bitten off by a downs kid while he was trying to blow you. They’re kinda retarded like that. I bet you were probably screaming “no teeth” the entire time.

Oh Adam, er, I mean Need2BFree, don’t ever change.

#9 Posted by Conzo on Sep 21, 2011 3:29 AM

Come on ntfs, I mean n2bf … at least try to put some effort in it …

“at least I have a dick long enough to step on”

I assume that one came in the package deal with the ability to walk with your knuckles scraping over the floor, and the surprisingly protuding jaw?

The secret is to bang the rocks together, kiddo!

Ah, so “Need” finally admits he is Adam. :D

#12 Posted by Adam_King on Sep 21, 2011 3:38 PM

Although need2bfree is a fine upstanding chap and I don’t mind being compared to him, we are not the same person.

#13 Posted by DigitalAtheist on Sep 21, 2011 4:03 PM

Yes Adam, yes you are the same person.

#14 Posted by Mr09 on Sep 21, 2011 4:05 PM

@Adam_King/need2bfree, how are you communist/socialist pigs doing today? ;)

#15 Posted by Adam_King on Sep 21, 2011 4:15 PM

Oh look a pathetic dick licker came out of no where to insult me.

“Hehe, communist pig.”

I thought the cold war was over two decades ago.

#18 Posted by Conzo on Sep 22, 2011 3:34 AM

Jeez, first they rape the perfectly lovely penguin for their political crap, now it’s pigs they start to abuse.

I’m almost tempted to start avoiding any FOSS for political reasons!
