Just a short note to admire SJVN for his deeply researched article on why Windows Phone 7 will never amount to anything.
Obviously, SJVN knows these things — IPredict™!
Obviously, as a self-proclaimed cyber-cynic, SJVN can recognise one OS from another.
Here, for what it’s worth, is his link to RIM’s latest attempt to break in to the consumer market. You will notice that it runs on QNX.
As all but the dimmest of dim cyber-cynics are well aware, QNX is not Linux. Even the sainted VNick admits this: it’s
RIM’s take on QNX embedded Unix.
I hate to disappoint the ignorant little sod, but QNX isn’t even “embedded Unix.”
(One of the ways you can tell this instantly is that it’s actually quite pretty. Finally, after about fifteen years or so, Photon has grown up.
(Yup, I used to work on QNX...)

“But it’s too little, too late” -SJVN
Sooo many people are saying this. But people switch phones more than they switch Desktop. Some of my friends are getting a WP7 phone as soon as their current phone contract is up.
“Microsoft’s earlier mobile systems were never able to grab many customers — or, more critically, developers.” -SJVN
Perhaps, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same situation. But what I’m seeing is a lot of people who loves developing with .NET are trying out the Phone Development Tools and are enjoying it.
“Programmers, like everyone else, need to make a living. I don’t see how in 2010 most of them will be able to do that with Windows Phone 7. “ -SJVN
I can see a lot of ways for them to make money. You can make several useful apps for your companies(or even for other users) using the Silverlight Platform.
IPredict™ that WP7 will get a decent chunk of the mobile market.
“Enterprise users need contact, email and calendar synchronization.”
“I doubt WM7 will take significant share from Apple or Google. But it’s not impossible.”
These two seemingly unrelated sentences are from the same SolidGoldComment™, with one following right after the other. Interesting, eh?
