Actually, I tried to track down the Dutch paedophilia stuff: I don’t think it exists. God knows, Stallman is a loon, but I don’t think he’s that far gone.

Excellent wiki. It’s almost like a “quote of the day” calendar for dingbats. My present favourite is:

“People get the government their behavior deserves. People deserve better than that.”

Adlai Stevenson famously said this in an address to Princeton in 1954. He was, in fact, quoting Alexis de Tocqueville.

Neither one said anything about “their behaviour,” which is a classic RMS twist.

de Tocqueville puts it thus: “In a Democracy, people get the government they deserve.”

Stevenson put it thus: “People get the kind of government they deserve.”

There’s a subtle difference there. de Tocqueville is clearly not on the side of “the people.” Stevenson (in 1954) is clearly pissed that he’s been beaten by Eisenhower, but he’s still pretty honest that the voters “kind of” deserve it.

To my knowledge, nobody bar RMS has ever brought behaviour into it. He’s big on behaviour, as long as it doesn’t involve personal hygiene.

He’s not so clear on why such undefined people should deserve better. Or what better is. Or how to measure that it’s better, once it’s there.

Or even what the fook it has to do with government.

Incidentally, it still has nothing on the Dutch, or on paedophilia. If we’re going to deride somebody for unacceptable beliefs, it’d be nice if we didn’t emulate the loontards and just throw it out there without attribution.

I am skeptical of the claim that voluntarily pedophilia harms children. The arguments that it causes harm seem to be based on cases which aren’t voluntary, which are then stretched by parents who are horrified by the idea that their little baby is maturing.
